Mako was listening to his grandfather tell a story of Tupa, the Ghost of the Lagoon.
Mako's grandfather told him the tragedy that had happened to their family caused by Tupa.
Your father was one of the three fishermen in the canoe that Tupa destroyed.
The death of Mako's father motivated Mako to kill Tupa and win the king's reward for anybody who can kill the shark.
I shall slay Tupa and win the king's reward!
Mako and his dog, Afa, went to the reef to get bananas and oranges to take home.
As Mako and Afa were paddling home, they encountered Tupa the shark, ready to attack! When Afa fell overboard, Mako had a new drive to kill the shark.
Mako succeeded in killing Tupa, and received praises and gifts for his courage.
