Frederick Douglass was born into slavery around the 1800’s, his age was unknown even to him. He never knew his dad and barley saw his mom because she was sold to another plantation. Douglass lived in many houses throughout his lifetime. Some he was treated kindly at, others he was not. One of his masters was a man named Mr.Covey. Master Covey was a brutal man who enjoyed beating his slaves. On the first week Douglass was beaten and whipped. Douglass would yell “Stop”. Master Covey never stopped even when tears would stream down his face. Douglass saw the most horrendous sights he has ever seen. Covey was the devil's spawn, sneaky and cunning.
He had almost no time to eat or sleep. When they could sleep, they had to sleep on the cold damp floor they didn't get one of our beds, they got grass. Through the snow, rain, and hail, they worked. The blankets were about as soft as plastic but they were cheaper.
Then one day with heat being almost near burning, Douglass was not feeling well. It was near the end of spring and starting summer in the blazing sun. Him and the other slaves were out there from dawn to the middle of the day already. He felt a sudden tsunami of nausea come by. He fell to the floor almost fainting when Covey came out. Covey saw Douglass lying there. Covey was enraged that he whipped Douglass till he was bloody on the back of his neck. The blood was constant, and the wound ran deep.
They were all forced to sleep on the floor together
