Ranching became popular after the civil war since there was a great demand for beef.The U.S government fed beef to it"s soldiers and mining companies fed it to it's workers.

The trains in New Mexico brought machinery so that farmers could use them for growing crops. It also allowed immigrants to get a job working to keep the railroad up and running.
This is so cool! No wonder a lot of people tour New Mexico.
Boomtowns started when some city's were filled with gold and silver. As soon as all the mining companies took the goods the towns quickly became ghost towns.
The Harvey House was a hotel and restaurant that was affordable so that while workers or tourist could have a place to eat and sleep. They also vowed to only hire women to work there.
Tourism was one of the largest business's in New Mexico. Tourist's spent money on lodging, trains, and souvenirs. Some of the people who visited thought the art and adobe agriculture was ugly.
The wild west contained many wars including the Colfax County war and the Lincoln County War. A main outlaw that was in the wild west was billy the kid. He is one of the biggest attractions in New Mexico.
