Storyboard Text

  • It was the summer before my senior year of high school. I decided to do an internship at a small medical center called the Monroeville Surgery Center.
  • As a volunteer with no official medical training, my job became disinfecting used beds and delivering various fountain drinks to the patients waking up from anesthesia.
  • *cleaning furiously*
  • I was required to wear a giant red volunteer jacket over my regular clothes that screamed "I'm new here!"
  • Most days were pretty normal. Truth be told, stripping used sheets off the beds and delivering the newest variety of apple juice got monotonous real quick.
  • Well, we have ginger ale, orange juice, water, apple juice...
  • But then one day, there was that guy.
  • This man was particularly vocal. Most patients tended to be slightly confused but generally very pleasant when they were waking up from surgery. He was not like this at all.
