  • Exposition: Tom Sawyer, the protagonist, is carefree, mischievous, and does what he wants. 
  • That's Peter. He's not important.
  • Conflict: Tom and Huck witness the murder of a young doctor. He decides not to tell anyone out of fear.
  • Rising Action: Tom, Joe, and Huck go "missing", on their pirate adventure. 
  • Tom! Oh Tom! We're so lost! 
  • Climax: Tom tells the truth about the murder, and Injun Joe, the murderer, escapes into the cave. Tom and Becky get lost in the cave.
  • Falling Action: Tom and Becky are rescued from the cave. Injun Joe's body is found, and he is very, very dead. 
  • Conclusion: Everybody is safe. Huck, who used to be homeless and an orphan, is adopted. The village is now wealthy and prosperous from Tom's discovery.
