  • Scout, tell your father to stop teaching you, it will interfere with your reading.

  • Miss Caroline asks the class what the alphabet was and asks scout if she can read it.  Scout then reads the alphabet to Miss Caroline.
  • Again Scout, tell your father to stop teaching you. Besides, we don't write in the first grade, we print.
  • Scout is told to stop letting her father teach her how to read, this sours the relation between her and Miss Caroline.
  • Now, everyone who brings their lunch to school put it up.
  • Scout starts writing a letter to Dill in cursive and is caught by Miss Caroline.
  • Here, take this quarter, you can pay me back tomorrow
  • Nome thank you ma'am
  • Scout is again told that her father needs to stop teaching her.
  • Miss Caroline asks for everyone who doesn't go home for lunch to put their lunch pail up.  She does not know that Walter does nothave any lunch.
  • Walter refuses Miss Caroline's quarter and when Scout explains why Miss Caroline gets even angrier.
  • He's a Cunningham Miss Caroline, he doesn't take anything he can't pay back.
