  • Christians Want The Holy Land
  • We need the Holy Land because of Jesus! Let's take it back from the Muslims
  • Pope Urban II
  • Muslims Want The Holy Land
  • *Holy Land*
  • We need this land because we are expanding and we need to make money!
  • Let's Crusade! (1st)
  • *Christians*
  • *Muslims*
  • The Christians want the Holy Land because it was where Jesus lived, preached, and died.  The only problem was that the Muslims had control of it.
  • Let's Crusade! ...again? (2nd)
  • All right guys, I'm getting bored so I'm going to head back and hope the Muslims don't take back the land.
  • *Holy Land*
  • I am the great Saladin who will lead the Muslims to victory against the Christians.  I will fight to keep the Holy Land, but since I'm nice, I'll let the Christians stay and visit the Holy Land.
  • The Muslims want the Holy Land because they are expanding so they need more land.  They also want more money.
  • Really? Again? (3rd)
  • Pope Urban II called for the 1st Crusade.  Most of the Christian army was made up of untrained peasants, who were told that if they captured the Holy Land, then they would go to Heaven.  The Christians actually succeeded in taking the land.
  • Is this necessary? (4th)
  • Uh, guys.  We need money.
  • Let's ask the Venetians.
  • After the Christian victory, many went back home, so the Turks retook the land.  The Christians called for a Second Crusade, and it was a fail. The King of France (King Richard I) and the Emperor of Germany sent their troops to face against the Turks, and very defeated badly.
  • King Richard the 1st called for the Third Crusade after he lost during the Second one.  They were fighting against Saladin, who was a very wise and kind ruler.  The Muslims won again, thanks to Saladin, but even though the Muslims lost, he still let the Christians come visit the Holy Land.
  • French Knights were going to sail to the Holy Land but they didn't have enough money.  The Venetians said that they would help pay for the voyage if the Knights took out the city of Zara for them.  They agreed and also took the treasures Constantinople while gaining back none of the Holy Land.  Many more Crusades followed but none were successful.
