7. “The hurricane is called Hurricane Katerina. It is a category 3 hurricane which means it is a big hurricane that can damage many places. This hurricane happened today on august 29, 2005 in the early morning at 6:10 AM in the city of New Orleans and the areas around it. Before the hurricane came to New Orleans it passed over the Bahamas on August 24, 2005 and that is when it was called hurricane Katrina. Katrina then passed over the Gulf Coast in the early morning of August 29, 2005 and later that morning, a levee which is placed on the edges of rivers and streams to prevent flooding broke in New Orleans, which caused flood water to flow into the city. For now what you can do to stay safe is to stay inside and keep away from all windows, skylights and glass doors, it would be preferred if you stayed on the lowest level of your houses. You should keep a flashlight and a portable battery powered radio available where you can listen to the news in case of power loss. Turn off unnecessary lighting and equipment like computers and lastly avoid flooded areas. Stay safe everyone and I'll let you know about the new updates, goodbye.”
8. “ Give us a few seconds Talia, we will be back” said the dad. The parents quickly went upstairs to close all lights that were not needed, they brought a flashlight and a small radio and a few snacks. They had to be ready for anything.
The parents shut the basement door on their way down to make sure they were safe. Talia and her parents stayed in the basement for a few days listening to the updates on the radio and on august 31, 2005 an update said that it was finally safe for them to go out but life was definitely not back to normal.
10. When they got out of the basement they were shocked to see how damaged their home was. They gathered all of their important items and went to live with Talias grandparents until the house could be fixed.
11. A few months later their house was rebuilt, there were a few imperfections but they managed to live in it. Talia was so happy to finally be back home. Talia and her parents did take a while to get back to normal, but after a few weeks her fears were mostly gone.
