  • Henry O. Flipper was born at Thomasville, Georgia on March 21, 1856. He was born as a slave.
  •  Henry attended school at the American Missionary Association. When he was a freshman at Atlanta University in 1873, he was appointed to the U.S military Academy.  
  • He was the fifth black person accepted in the academy. Henry was the first out of the five to graduate from West Point.
  • He was an officer in the Tenth Cavalry. Flipper served at Fort Elliot, Concho, Quitman, and Davis.
  • Henry O. Flipper created a road from Gainesville to Fort Still. He had to do this because some of the Fourth United States Cavalry got drunk and stopped the road.
  • Henry helped escort Quanah Parker to Fort Still in the winter of 1878-79. Also fought in two wars during Victorio Campaign.
