  • The Depressionis said to have begun with the stock market crash. The country’seconomy was trapped in a downward cycle for several years. 
  • With bad economy and no job, Oklahoma people had to leave their land to work. These migrates were called Okies.
  • Just as overproduction had flooded the oil market, agricultural production went beyond demand and the collapse of commodity prices.
  • Farmers and ranchers everywhere had the same problem of growing too much and selling for dryland farming  which was agriculture without irrigation.
  • Farm workers were forced to leave Oklahoma during the Depression, they were called Okies.
  • The Dust  Bowl was an area of Oklahoma, Kansas and northern Texas affected by severe soil erosion.
