  • Italy (1844, 2 years before moving to the west) 14 year old Luna wants to run away from her home and hears from some of her neighbors  that the west part of America was very peaceful so thats where Luna decided to go.
  • I cant wait to move to Oregon!
  • Missouri (1845) It has already taken Luna a year just to get to America. In order to get to Oregon, she had to pass through the Oregon trail. The Oregon trail was hard to get through, it was a 2,000 route just to get to Oregon, Luna also believed in manifest destiny, that she had a god given right to move west.
  • Come on Tux, we have to go through the oregon trail!
  • Oregon (1846) Luna was confused. As soon as she got to Oregon, she saw Native Americans sadly moving. It looked like they were forced to move.  Luna had a good heart and her first thoughts were...
  • I wish I could help them...
  • Oregon (1847, it has already been a year living in the west.) Luna gets used to the culture there and learns all she needs to know about farming. As  she starts to water her plants she continues to think about the poor native Americans that had been forced to move. Luna wanted to do something about it so she started to make a plan.
  • Luna couldn´t help the ones who had already left so she decided to help then native american family that lived near her. She learned that president Andrew Jackson supported the policy of moving native americans east. Luna wrote a letter to Andrew Jackson about their rights and until he responded to the letter, hid the family.
  • You can hide at my place until things change.
  • Thank you!
  • Luna hid the native american family at her home for about a year when finally Andrew Jackson responded...Despite all the other families that had already moved west, he said that the ones who were still there can stay! Luna was so happy she was able to make a difference. Later on Luna become a hero to all Native Americans living in the west. Although Andrew Jackson only accespted because he would not be president soon, it had become the native americans right to stay in the west. Luna was glad she had decided to go west and grow up!
