Over 400 years ago, there was a protestant king called James who liked plain churches and simple prayers. During this time, people used to argue over what God wanted. James wanted everyone to pray in his churches so he started to give out fines to people who didn't.
Robert Catesby and three of his friends decided to attempted an assasination on the king because they hoped their new king would be kinder to Catholics. They needed someone who was an expert on gunpowder as their plan was to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
Robert Catesby recruited Guy Folks to help with the plan and he said that they would need 20 barrels of gunpowder to blow up the Houses of Parliament. He also knew a way to get the gunpowder underneath where king James will be sitting for the opening of Parliament.
It was decided that they should recruit 3 more men which was a mistake. 1 of the men had a friend who worked in the Houses of Parliament and he didn't want him to get killed so he sent his friend a letter to warn him. When his friend received the letter, he found it extremely suspicious and immediately showed it to the king.
The king immediately sent his guards to search the Houses of Parliament inside out but only to find nothing. Then, they began to search the houses next door and found Guy Fawkes ready and waiting to light the 20 barrels of gunpowder.
It took Guy Fawkes 3 days to say who else was in on the plot. They were all arrested, then hung, drawn and quartered. Finally, their heads were placed on the Traitor's Gate in The Tower Of London.
