  • You have to leave this land and move.  You will be payed by the government.
  • The Louisiana Purchase was one of the most important events that helped lead to the Westward Expansion. It doubled the size of the U.S. and opened new land for Americans to move to. If the U.S. didn't purchase the territory, we wouldn't have had the land to move to.
  • The Trail Of Tears
  • Louis and Clark's expedition was another important event that helped lead to the Westward Expansion. Louis and Clark traveled to the land that was recently purchased by Thomas Jefferson. They formed a good relationship with the Native Americans living there. They also learned lots of information on the land.
  • Manifest Destiny
  • Americans destiny is to move west. Its our god-given right! 
  • Andrew Jackson passed a law that required Native Americans to move west of the Mississippi River to make more space for Americans. The law had said the Native Americans would be paid for the land. Americans troops forced thousands of Native Americans to walk hundreds of miles from their homes.
  • The Oregon Trail
  • After the Indian Removal Act Native Americans were forced to leave their homes. The walk to go West of the Mississippi River was far from easy. The Native Americans faced harsh cold and diseases. About one-forth of the people who made the journey passed away. 
  • Manifest Destiny's was an American belief that Americans had to move West. Americans felt it was their destiny and their right to move to the West. This motivated them to begin moving to the newly purchased land.
  • The Oregon Trail was the trail Americans walked to move west. It was always a difficult journey. Women and children had to walk, while the men drove their carts. There were lots of problems, like disease and animals dying.
