  • Give us back the cannon!
  • The Battle of Gonzales
  • Mexican General Domingo de Ugartechea heard that Gonzales didn't want to give up a cannon he sent Francisco de Castaneda to take it by force with 100 men.
  • Come and Take It
  • The Mexican army was on one side of the Guadalupe River and 18 Texans of the other. The army told the Texans to give them the cannon but they refused.
  • The Texans dug up the cannon from where it was hidden under the peach orchard. Since they didn't have cannon balls they filled the cannon with scrap metal .
  • On October 1, the Texans went to Castaneda's camp and raised a homemade flag that said "Come and Take It".
  • On the morning of October 2, the Texans attacked the Mexicans.The Mexicans were outnumbered and didn't have enough weapons, so they retreated.
