This is showing Elie inside of the ghetto. He talks about being inside the ghetto as he says "This afternoon I saw new faces in the ghetto" (Wiesel 13).
This is showing the train that Elie and all the other Jews had to travel on. This the train where the women was having a panic attack about seeing a fire but it wasn't there. She yelled "I see a fire! I see flames, huge flames!" (Wiesel 25)
This is showing Elies father lying on the ground. He fell to the ground after he got slapped by one of the officers. Elie describes it and says "he slapped my father with such force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours" (Wiesel 39).
This is showing the Kapos as the march was being instructed. He would repeat "Left, right, left, right!" (Wiesel 49) as he would lead the march.
This is showing Elie with a piece of bread. This is the only thing anyone could eat and they are barely any of it. "And I nibbled on my crust of bread" (Wiesel 69).
This is showing one of the SS officers with a gun. They would shoot anyone who would stop running during the march. Elie describes it and says "The SS made us increase our pace" (Wiesel 85).
