Storyboard Text

  • Cuba fought 3 wars and eventually won freedom for herself and for all of her people from Spain and began working towards equality
  • Hawaii fought hard for her people and their freedom, but in the end had to accept becoming one of America's states.
  • The two young nations started out much the same, but ended very differently, with Cuba going from colony to country and Hawaii going from nation to state.
  • Things weren't going quite as well for Hawaii. Some of  the American sugar planters decided that they didn't like how Hawaii's queen was ruling and overthrew her.
  • She fought and she argued with both England and America, but neither of them thought that Hawaii was big enough or strong enough to rule as her own nation.
  • She was very upset, and continued to fight for her sovereignty, but to no avail. America annexed Hawaii and she became one of his states.
