Storyboard Text

  • The Misuse of Pyschological Conditioning
  • "I'm  so glad I'm a beta
  • During their conditioning, the Delta children are taught to hate the things that could potentially distract them from their work, namely, books and flowers. Should a child be curious and try to reach for one of these items, they would receive an electric shock in order to deter them from the objects. These delta children are brainwashed to hate things that our society would view as beautiful.  - chapter 2
  • While sleeping, Beta children are conditioned to think that their caste is the best, and that they want for nothing. Coming from under their pillows, a voice describes how other castes are inferior or too much work compared to the beta’s. This voice would eventually become the voice of reason and independent thought as the children grow older, giving the government even more control over the citizens. - chapter 2
  • Lenina cares for John and wants to be with him (in her own way), yet knows that what she is feeling is not acceptable in her society. Fanny simply tells Lenina to stop thinking about him and take soma. Since their conditioning, citizens are told to take soma when things in life go their way. Lenina knows that she is not allowed to care for John more than a casual hookup, therefore, she must take soma. - chapter 13
