Māori were the first to arrive in New Zealand in between 1250 to 1300
then in between the 1600-1800s the british arrived and changed the way maori lived. there were around 100,000 maori when the british arrived and wars started.
after the british arrived in new zealand many wars took place and the british had guns while the maori had green stone wepons like taiaha and some iwi had traded stuff for guns. so amny maori were kiled
then in May 1840 the treaty between the british and maori was signed and that ended the wars. there were around 80,000 maoris.
in 2013 a survey shows that there are more than 500,00 maoris in new zealand
