My vignette centers on Cassandra, a 13 year old living in Columbus, Ohio. She tries to act and look the same way as her peers to fit in. Despite this, Cassandra is still an outsider.
I wish I could be like them...
Everywhere Cassandra goes, she sees people in groups, laughing and talking. She wants to approach one, but she is worried that they will not like her because she is different.
One day, while walking home from school, Cassandra comes across the whirligig. As she looks closer, she sees that it depicts 6 children, all of who look different and are doing different things. However, they all have joyful looks on their faces.
Maybe I don't have to be like the others to fit in!
The next day, Cassandra decides to approach a group of kids in the library. Instead of rejecting her, like she thought they would, they welcome her with open arms.
