In 1857 Gregor Mendel conducted a famous study of inheritance using pea plants
Mendel realised that peas were either be pink or green. Meaning that the gene comes in two varieties, varieties known as alleles
Gregor then bread 2 green heterozygous peas which created 3 dominant green peas and 1 pink recessive pea.
To prove his research Gregor created a Punnet square. He also discovered that phenotype is the physical appearance and genotype is the alleles
Red = RRPhenotype = Genotype
Gregor discovered that when the green and pink homozygous peas had babies, they were all green meaning that the green trait was dominant
And that is the story of Gregor Mendel's discovery of inheritance.
