Storyboard Text

  • By JD Engel THE DRED SCOTT CASE Red Block 1
  • I am Dred Scott. I am a slave born from Virginia. In 1833, I was sold to Dr. John Emerson, and taken to the Wisconsin Territory, where slavery is illegal. After many years, I moved with Dr. Emerson, my wife, and my children to St. Louis. When Dr. Emerson died, me and my family went to court to fight for freedom.
  • I tried to sue the court claiming that me and my family were legally free since we lived in a territory where slavery was banned, but they then said that negros are not citizens.
  • NEGROS ARE NOT CITIZENS!!!
  • Outside the court, people were arguing about whether slaves should be citizens.
  • Eventually, they told the public that they decided that slaves are not citizens. I guess my fight for freedom is done. I lost, but I can tell this is not over.
  • THE END
