  • Metacom, was the Native American leader known for the “King Philip's War” where he led an attack on the colonial villages. Hundreds of both sides were killed, but the colonials ended up defeating the natives. Metacom belonged to the Pokanoket tribe.
  • Did Exploration have a negative or positive impact?
  • Metacom increased exchanges of Indian land for English guns, ammunition, liquor and blankets. He was also summoned to Taunton (Massachusetts by the Taunton river) and was required to sign a new peace agreement, because the colonials were scared. The agreement included the surrender of Indian guns.
  • Did Exploration have a negative or positive impact?
  • Following the death of Metacom's father his brother Wamsutta was arrested for suspicion of starting a war, but died during questioning. Metacom then became King.
  • Although Metacom's father maintained a good relationship with the colonies for a while, the exploration negatively affected Metacom and his people because of the unfair agreement that led to the war
  • The colonies were scared of the Native Americans starting an uprising and the colonials made a new peace agreement that made Native Americans surrender the weapons they got from the english.
