Characterization Early in the book, we can tell Thomas is brave and selfless. One of the first few nights at the Glade, Thomas realizes the runners won't make it back before the walls close for the night, so Thomas jumps in.
"When I went through the Changing, i saw flashes of images... But I remember enough" (302).
Imagery I chose this quote because it creates a gruesome, vivid picture into what is going on.
"What's happening?" (345).

Theme With friendship you can overcome many odds. This quote shows that Thomas will do anything for his friends because he cares for them.

Symbolism The sun symbolizes hope and normalcy in The Maze Runner, the Gladers are always hopeful and energized, but later in the book when the sun disappears the Gladers lose all hope.
