Storyboard Text

  • Why do we need phrases and clauses in English?
  • Well phrases are either verbs, subjects, and complement which makes up a clause and you cant have a sentence without phrases
  • Okay and can you explain why we have colons and semicolons
  • Well we need colons because sometimes you need a mix of a comma and a period and colons are for brief pauses
  • Why do dependent clauses depend on independent clauses?
  • Oh that's because dependent clauses cant stand on there own in a sentence so it has to have a independent with it
  • Its a conjunction that introduces a subordinating clause.
  • Whats a subordinating conjunction?
  • "Maybe one day ill teach you again, If you ask me."
  • "I think you have learned a lot about grammar today."
  • "I could teach you that right now, If you would like."
  • "Maybe, it might be about semicolons next time"
  • "Because of you, I have learned a lot. "
  • Yes that would be nice; colons would help too.
  • You use semicolons when its between a comma and a period: Colons are used when you need a brief pause.
