Bill S-228 is discussing the issue of food companies addressing advertisements toward children. Some think that this is bad and leading to things like child obesity, but others don't think it is really bad at all, and that it just makes food more fun for kids.
Now it's up to the Senate to decide whether or not to pass this bill and make a ban on advertising to children.
After three readings, much debating and the giving of Royal Assent, the Senate has decided to pass this bill affirming that children should not be targeted for advertising. In particular, there should not be any motivation to select a specific brand because of prizes and other such incentives which could contribute to overeating and obesity amongst children.
