Storyboard Text

  • The next battle was the Battle of Salamis, a battle at sea. The Greeks realized that if the big Persian ships crowded around and got stuck, then they could attack at an advantage.
  • We can't turn!
  • As planned, the Greeks won the Battle of Salamis and
  • Attack!!
  • The Greeks were victorious at the Battle of Marathon using a strategy or formation called the phalanx.
  • A Greek traitor let the Persians know a secret path that would let the Persians attack from behind.
  • Hey guys, I have to tell you something.
  • This lead to confusion and eventually the defeat of the Greeks, but before that, there were 300 Spartans outnumbered severely. They were going to lose no matter what, yet still they couldn't go without a fight.

  • Ionian Revolt 499 BC - 493 BC
  • We've had enough of this!
  • The Ionian Revolt was a revolt, or group of rebellions who fought back against the Persians that had captured them.
  • Persia then chose to turn their attention to the Greeks and this was the beginning of the Persian Wars, and the first battle-- the battle of Marathon
