  • Hi, welcome to ancient India.  This is my home.
  • The Himalaya Mountains are located along India's northern border. This mountain range is the highest in the world and forms a natural border between the Indian subcontinent and much of Asia.
  • The Ganges River flows through most of northern India. Starting at the Himalayas Mountains.

  • The discovery of a scale, standard weights, and marked rods suggested that the ancient Indians had uniforms to measure scale and weight.     
  • Their sewer system carried waste away from the city's buildings and into the Indus River Vally.
  • Now we will talk about Hinduism.
  • Hinduism is the most influential religion in modern day India. And it is the third largest religion in the world. 
  • Hinduism teaches everything in the world  is a part of Brahman. Even the human soul.
  • Of course!
  • Prince Siddartha was born about 563 B.C.E in present-day country Nepal, near the Himalaya Mountains.
  • Before the Buddha became the Buddha he was known as Prince Siddhartha Gautama.
  • Can you tell us a little bit about Buddhism?
  • Now tell us a little bit about Emperor Ashoka.
  • Not all of Ashoka's actions reflected on Buddhist values. For example, under his rule, people could be executed for crimes. 
  • Well Ashoka decided to embrace Buddhism and support Buddhist values  of love, and peace and non-violence.
