Storyboard Text

  • This is an example of how a bill becomes a law by Diana Kalajdzic
  • Oh no, this isn't fair. Every student should be able to afford the lunch at school.
  • Step One
  • I have an idea Charlie! I will call our local congressman and introduce an idea that will reduce the amount of money for school lunches.
  • $2.45
  • great idea!
  • Step 1
  • This sounds like a great idea. I will introduce this to Congress.
  • How a Bill Becomes a Law
  • Step 3
  • This is capital hill where congressman will debate if the bill (lunch money should be less) should become a law.
  • Citizens develop or suggest an idea for a bill.
  • Step 4
  • This where the bill will be sent for the President to sign or deny the bill. I hope he signs it!
  • The local congressman will then either propose or deny the bill, and introduce into Congress. In this case he proposed it.
  • Step 5
  • What a great idea! This bill ought to become a law!
  • The president signed the bill and is now a law.
  • Then congressman argue and debate in committee whether it should be a law.
  • If the whole house of representatives vote yes then the bill goes to the senate and everything starts all over again. And they vote for the bill on capital hill then the bill gets sent to the White house.
  • If the President signs the bill then it will become a law. But if he or she doesn't then it will will become vetoed and will get sent back all the way to congress and they vote on the bill again.
  • Now students like Charlie will be able to afford the school lunch on a daily basis.
