  • Georg Cantor was born on March 3, 1845 in St. Petersburg Russia.
  • Georg Cantor moved to St. Petersburg, Germany when he was 11 years old. He later moved to Frankfurt, went to school in Darmstadt (graduated in 1860), studied in Zurich (1863), went to the University of Berlin (1863-1867), spent a summer term in the University of Göttingen (1866), and became a professor.
  • 1874-1884: Georg studied trigonometric series and a complex variable done by Bernhard Riemann (helped him define irrational numbers, led to set theory) and discovered that the real line (linear continuum) is not countable using the natural numbers.
  • 1874-1884: Developed the bijective function and a complete transfinite arithmetic (also infiinite numbers).

  • Georg Cantor died January 6, 1918 in Halle, Germany.
  • Georg was also a skilled violinist, was brought up Protestant, had 4 siblings, was fluent in both German and Russian, and earned his Doctoral degree.
