  •          Violating Neutral Rights 
  • Impressment
  •                  The Chesapeake 
  • By not taking sides in the war, the U.S was able to continue with this trade. A nation in a conflict enjoyed neutral rights, meaning its ships could sail the seas and not taking sides.
  • The Embargo Act 
  • British naval ships began stopping American ships to search for suspected British desertes. This practice of forcing people to serve in the navy was called impressment. 
  • Broken Treaties
  • The Chesapeake was an American vessel off the coast of Virginia. The Britain killed 3 of the crew members.
  • War Hawks 
  • The Embargo act was passed in December 1807. Prohibits trade with another country.
  • The west were having some problems too because Ohio had became a state. Native Americans broke treaties.
  • The War Hawks were a group of young republican congress members. Republicans and Congress members
