  • The story opens up to a fight between the Montagues and the Capulets. This shows the major tension between the two.
  • I do bite my thumb, Sir.
  • Do you bite your thumb at us?
  • Well, in that hit you miss. She'll not be hit with Cupid's arrow.
  • Romeo is very upset over Rosaline. He can not seem to move on so he is going to be overly upset.
  • Let two more summers wither in their pride ere we may think her ripe to be a bride,
  • Paris is trying to convince Capulet (Juliet's Father) to let her marry him.  
  • Younger than she are happy mothers made.
  • A man, young lady! Lady, such a man As all the world. Why, he’s a man of wax.
  • In this scene Lady Capulet is trying to get Juliet to marry Paris
  • Well, think of marriage now. The valiant Paris seeks you for his love.
  • Not I, believe me. You have dancing shoes  With nimble soles. I have a soul of lead So stakes me to the ground I cannot move.
  • Mercutio takes Romeo to a Capulet party. Romeo is still upset over Rosaline
  • Nay, gentle Romeo, we must have you dance.
  • Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.
  • Romeo in this scene completely forgets about Rosaline. He is now very fond of Juliet.
