In the 1800's the slave trade took up 80% of American exports and was all over the south of the USA. Slaves were subjected to hard labor, long hours and unsafe living conditions. People finally spoke up and had enough and started protests and the underground railroad began,freeing slaves and messing up slave owners operations.
Protesters gathered everywhere to protest the abuse of African American slaves. they helped disrupt southern planter operations and freed slaves. The underground railroad was a covert operation that freed thousands of slaves and eventually freed all slaves
Abolishing slavery took a while but eventually the people were heard. President Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves and they were no longer property. the movement was successful and ever since then it has been a important event in American history.
