Storyboard Text

  • Bernadette wasn't a very rich, for hard times had fallen on France and the Soubirous' lived in extreme poverty. In short: She wasn't wealthy.
  • This is Bernadette Soubirous, otherwise known as St. Bernadette of Lourdes.
  • She was born on the 7th of January, 1844. She was the firstborn daughter of her family and has always suffered with cholera and severe asthma.
  • One day, on February 11th. Fourteen year-old Bernadette went to a grotto with her sister to fetch some water. Soubirous entered a cave and that was when she first saw Mary. Bernadette was terrified, and she began to pray the rosary.
  • Bernadette told her sisters and her family about her vision, and soon, many people have known too.
  • No one, but her family believed her at first. Many people thought that she was a drunkard, some though she was mad, and onetime, she was close to being out in an Asylum
  • Her visions resumed, resulting in 18 visions in a year. On one vision, Mary told Bernadette to dig on the ground until she found a stream that could heal people from their illnesses. And to everyone's surprise, the stream worked.
