  • Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS)
  • Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS) - RAAS is a complex & major system that is responsible for blood pressure management - helps control and maintain blood pressure and fluid balance
  • Stimulus of RAAS - Drop in renal perfusion or drop in blood pressure: 3 triggers - 1. Dehydration 2. Decrease in sodium levels  3. Haemorrhage
  • Juxtaglomerular Apparatus - Juxtaglomerular Cells and Macula Densa Cells - JG cells have stretch receptors  - Macula Densa Cells detect sodium levels
  • Renin - Enzyme secreted by JG Cells - Helps regulate blood pressure  - Acts on Angiotensinogen
  • Angiotensinogen - Produced in the liver - Interacts with Renin to make Angiotensin I - Is a precursor protein
