Claudius arranges to have Hamlet dispatched to England without delay. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern will accompany him. Claudius kneels to pray, wondering how he can gain forgiveness for his crime. Hamlet sees Claudius and realises that it is an opportunity to kill him . Hamlet decides to postpone killing Claudius until he finds him committing some evil act so that he will go to hell.
With Gertrude's consent, Polonius hides behind the tapestry in her apartment. Hamlet mistakenly kills Polonius. He thought it was Claudius and regrets that it wasn't him. Hamlet subjects Gertrude to a series of damaging accusations charging her with betraying her marriage vows and contracting an incestuous marriage with a repulsive 2nd husband who is also a murderer.
