  • Political battles took place over the governmental authority. Southerners- believed in authority resting in individual states. Northerners- believed in the power of the federal government.

  • Southerners claimed major economic, social, and political issues would rise higher that could cause fights in the country as a result of the end of slavery.
  • Fun Fact: Arkansas formed 48 infantry regiments for the Confederate Army in addition to numerous Cavalry.
