Well, my parents wanted me to be a great ruler but there was also a chance for me to become the Buddha. My parents did everything they could to stop me from becoming the Buddha by giving me the best of everything. But even that did not work. I finally became aware of the three sufferings. Because of seeing that, it made me want to change into an ascetic.
What was it like before you became the Buddha?
As I was saying, once I decided to become a ascetic to reach enlightenment and nirvana I cut my hair, wore only simple cloths, and had a basket for alms. Much of the time while I was a ascetic I was meditating and fasting. Soon I found out that being an ascetic was not the way to reach enlightenment. I then looked for the "middle way."
How did you become the Buddha?
After I found the "middle way" I walked until I reached the Bodhi. I meditated under that tree until I reached enlightenment. The next day I became the Boddah. I started telling other about this state of mind as well as The Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path. Because of me doing that it created Buddhism.
