On their journey towards their home in Ithaca, Odysseus and his men wind up on the island of the cyclops Polyphemus.
Upon exploring the island, Odysseus and his men found a cave, which unknown to them, belonged to Polyphemus. Inside they found food and drink. Helping themselves, they ate and rested.
While they rested, Polyphemus returned to his cave and found the men. Furious, he picks up one of the men and eats him. Afterwards, the cyclops settles down when Odysseus offers him wine. He asks for his name before he goes to sleep and Odysseus tells him "Nobody."
While the cyclops is sleeping, Odysseus thinks of a plan to escape. He and his men sharpen a large piece of wood that they'll use to stab Polyphemus.
While Polyphemus sleeps, Odysseus and his remaining men sneak up and stab him in the eye. He screams and removes the rock which covered the door, allowing for his prisoners to escape. As Odysseus runs away, the cyclops calls out, alerting his father Poseidon of the trespasser that blinded him.
