In 1696, Peter became a sole ruler of Russia after sharing the throne with his brother. He continued the trend of increasing the czars power.
Peter created westernization which made him modernize his army, reduce power of landowners, and impose heavy taxes.
I introduced potatoes, started Russia's first newspaper,raised woman's status, and advanced education.
Peter the Great held all the power and therefore, absolutism is part of his period.
Ivan the Terrible also held all the power, but only after the boyars were accused of poisoning his wife. Absolutism took place here.
Ivan came to throne when he was 3, but seized power when he was 16 in 1546. He was a great ruler, but failed to be one after his wife died.
He organized his own police force whose orders were to hunt down and murder people who Ivan considered traitors. Ivan executed many boyars, their family and the peasants who worked on their land.
Ivan committed an act in 1581 where her killed his oldest son and heir. When Ivan died in 1584, only his weakest son was left to rule.
