  • One of the biggest cases I won involved the Social Security Act. We changed it so it would not longer be sexually biased.
  • In 1980, President Jimmy Carter appointed me to the US Court of Appeals for D.C.
  • Then, in 1993, President Bill Clinton appointed me to a US Supreme Court seat!
  • I was confirmed by the Senate 96-3! It was historical. I spoke about my feminist beliefs to them.
  • At this time, I was only the second female on the Supreme Court. I was also the first Jewish. female Today there have been 4 total women on the court, including myself.
  • During my time in the Supreme Court, I was known as the Moderate-liberal bloc. I advocated mostly for favor of gender equality, the rights of workers and the separation of church and state.
