One of the biggest cases I won involved the Social Security Act. We changed it so it would not longer be sexually biased.
In 1980, President Jimmy Carter appointed me to the US Court of Appeals for D.C.
Then, in 1993, President Bill Clinton appointed me to a US Supreme Court seat!
I was confirmed by the Senate 96-3! It was historical. I spoke about my feminist beliefs to them.
At this time, I was only the second female on the Supreme Court. I was also the first Jewish. female Today there have been 4 total women on the court, including myself.
During my time in the Supreme Court, I was known as the Moderate-liberal bloc. I advocated mostly for favor of gender equality, the rights of workers and the separation of church and state.
