  • Geography and location or Rome
  • Myth of Romulus and Remus
  • Influence or Etruscan Engineering
  • Nobody really knows how Rome was actually developed. Although, around 700 B.C.E a latin tribe developed Rome. Rome is located in Italy and is in the middle of the mediterranean sea. Rome is also a peninsula (land with water on three sides). The Romans were very influenced by the Greeks way of life as well which is also part of the Roman culture.
  • Influence or Etruscan Sports
  • The myth or Romulus and Remus is there was a king that was worried about the twins that his neice had would take over his throne. He then sent people to drown them, as they followed orders they reported that they were dead. As the twins were not dead and they stopped in the river, a wolf had found them. The wolf took them and raised her as her own. As a man noticed that their behavior was off he then took and raised them. When they were older they began to build villages. Although they fought due to the fact that they each wanted to call it something different. Remus was killed so it was called Rome.
  • Influence or Greek Architecture
  • The Romans became great builders because they learned many techniques from the Etruscans/Greeks. Some of their most important structures that the Romans made were arches and cuniculus. They used these in many buildings and sctuctures like bridges, stadiums, and even aquaducts. These aquaducts were used to carry water long distances.
  • Influence of Art, Religion, and Writing
  • One thing that Romans loved to do was watch sports. Some sports that were done was chariot races, and slave fighting. Chariot racing was a four horse race against multiple teams. Slave fighting was when two slaves fought and the winner was congradulated and then executed. Thousands of people died and risked their lives from these sports.
  • Greek architecture was one of the most important influences on the Romans. The Romans also used many of the Greek designs in their buildings just like the Greeks did. The Romans also learned to used concrete on their buildings also. For instance they used it on the Pantheon in Rome.
  • The Romans admired Greek arts like pottery, sculpting, and painting. In fact the Romans used it so much that it is now called Greco-Roman art. Much like the Greeks, they were specialized in making life-like scuptors. Much or the Romans writing was also from the Greeks. For example the Romans alphabet came from the Greeks. They were also written like the Greeks, the letters all look the same. Much like Greeks, the Romans worrshipped many gods. Many of the gods were used as well.
