  • HaroldGodwinson Earl of Wessex, Harald Hardraada and William Duke of Normandy fought for the throne
  • Note: Harold Godwinson is the one on the left, Harald Hadraada is the middle ond and Williaam Duke of Normandy is on the right
  • The Battle of Hastings was the fight between Harold Godwinson, Harald Hadraada and William Duke of Normandy.William"s Army surrounded the other's army and won the fight.
  • After the battle William became the first Norman king and made several changes to England such as building castles and introducing the FeudalSystem
  • Problems William had in controlling England:1. Many of the english lords did not accept him as the king.2. There were still threats of invasions from Scandinavia supported by an English rebellion in the north of England.
  • The Domesday Book was a huge survey conducted by William who was currently the king
  • The Feudal Sytem was the way society was organised throughout Western Europe during the Middle Ages. The King gave land to a small number of powerful men such as Barons, knights or lords and in return they supported the king.
