- Montresor vows to get his revenge on Fortunato for the years of insult the Fortunato has put against him.
- Climax
- Pass your hand over the wall. You cannot help feeling the nitre.
- Montressor uses reverse psychology to lure Fortunato into his vault to take his revenge.
- Falling Action
- Once Montressor gets Fortunato in his vaults, he gets him extremely drunk so he doesn’t realize what is happening.
- Resolution
- For the half of a century, no mortal has disturbed them.In pace requiescat!
- Once they have traveled through the passage to the small crook in the catacomb, Fortunato is chained to the wall. Then, Montressor reveal a pile of bricks that he will use to wall in Fortunato. Fortunato is too bewildered to resist.
- As he is walling up Fortunato, he screams for help, but Montressor starts screaming as well to show that no one can hear him. Fortunato calls out “For the love of God, Montresor!” He responds “Yes,” I said, “for the love of God!”
- It has been 50 years since the event and Montresor give his confession. He explains that the bones had been untouched and no one knew since he had plastered it up. He utters one final phrase, “ In pace requiescat!”
