The exposition of As Brave as you is when Genie and Ernie are driving up to their grandparents house in Virginia. They will stay at their grandparents house in the countryside while their parents go on vacation in Jamaica. They have never met their grandparents before. They will live with no technology, which will be hard because they are used to technology in Brooklyn, New York.
External and Internal Conflict
The main character is Genie. Genie is the younger brother of Ernie and he is 10 years old. He is short and smart. He likes to write everything down in his notebook. He has black hair and he is african american. He is the protagonist because he helps grandpa more than Ernie does, also he was the first one to see grandpa's secret bird room.
The main antagonist is Crab. He is a friend of grandpa. They have been friends for a while. Crab lives down the street from grandpa's house with his wife and his daughter. I think he is the antagonist because he was the one that was pushing grandpa to let Ernie go hunting for his birthday, and when he shot the gun, the pull back knocked out some of his teeth, so if Crab didn't push Ernie to go hunting, that would've happened.
The internal and external conflict was when Genie killed grandpa's bird, Michael Jackson. He killed him by accidentally feeding him apple seeds. When Genie was feeding the birds he was running out of food so he fed Michael Jackson apple seeds not knowing that that would kill him. So he had to try to find a replacement before grandpa would notice.
The rising action of my book is when they start to go hunting. While Ernie was at his grandparents house he was going to celebrate his 14th birthday. While grandpa was talking to one of his friends he was saying that every boy needs to learn to hunt once they turn 14. So Ernie went hunting with grandpa, Genie, and Crab. Once they left their house they were on their way to the woods.
The climax is when Ernie got his teeth knocked out. Ernie went hunting with grandpa, Genie, and Crab. They went out in the woods to the place where grandpa first learned to shoot a gun. Once they got to the spot, grandpa gave Ernie the revolver. When he was lining up the shot, he was getting nervous and he didn't have good form or posture, so when he shot, the pullback of the gun knocked 2 of his teeth out.
