In 1978 the immigration act went through some drastic changes. Prior to 1960's immigrants would come from Britain and United States. However, now people from all around the world of different races and beliefs came to begin a new life in Canada.
Due to a vaiety of events occurring around the world, one main being war, Canada accepted refugees.
Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, declared in 1971 that Canada would adopt a multicultural policy. The Government of Canada would recognize and respect its society including its diversity in languages, customs, religions, and so on.
