The first step for becoming president is being nominated. If the incumbent president is on his/her first term, he/she is almos garunteed nomination. The party picks people most likely to win.
After that comes primaries and caucuses. The people or party vote for which party candidate they want to represent their party.
Step three is the national convention. Each party has one so state its platform, name its candidates, and unify the party.
Next, the candidates go campaigning. The purpose of this is to gain the support of voters by doing various activities like making speeches and playing ads.
Step 5 is the general election. This is where voters go to vote for who they want to become president
The sixth and final step is the electoral college. People in the general election vote for electors, who then vote for a candidate. Although the electoral college serves as a middleman, election outcomes have changed because of it.
