In the beginning of our section they start by talking about the plot of land Rex has picked out for the glass castle and about Brian and Jeannette digging where the foundation will go. Rex then turns this into a dump for them because they haven’t paid their fees to get garbage removal from the town. After that they had an infestation of rats in the house. One night Maureen was worrying about the rats saying one was climbing on her getting closer to her face and to show her there was no rat crawling up her, Jeannette turned on the lights and there was a rat on Maureen. They killed the rat and got in trouble with Rose. Jeannette didn’t fit in with the girls her age and the guys didn’t want to include her either. This one boy had developed a crush on Jeannette and the other boys had told him that if he showed them his “wanker” they would get him a date with Jeannette. Little did he known that it was all a big joke. Jeannette met her neighbourhood prostitute and for a while just thought of her a real person and respected that she still had the right amount of money to put a big turkey on the table for her family.
"But he never got around to that, either, and as Brian and I watched, the hole for the Glass Castle's foundation slowly filled with garbage." (Walls 155)
"I really do hear the rat, I think he is close to me." Walls 156
"If we all work together we can get it done in a day or two" (Walls 157)
"Neither putting on makeup nor wearing a sheet had much appeal for me, so I played football with the boys, who would waive their guys-only rule and let me join their team if they were short a player"(Walls159)
Rex filled the hole Brian and Jeannette dug for the foundation of the glass castle with garbage.
Maureen woke up with a rat on her in the middle of the night as a result of the homemade garbage dump in their back yard.
"We can take care of our own, We dont accept handouts from anyone" (Walls159)
Jeannette wanted to make their ugly run down house look better. Rex brought home some left over yellow paint from his job sight and Jeannette attempted to paint the house with it.
Jeannette had no interest in spending time with the girls around where she lived she only wanted to play football with the boys. But the boys didn't want her to play.
The local church gave Jeannette some used clothes that she was really excited about but her mother made her take them back because they don't need charity.
"One night I saw a car pull up in front of the Pastor house and blink it's headlights twice. After a minute, Ginnie Sue came running out the door and climbed into the front seat." (Walls 160-161)
Jeannette didn't understand how Ginnie Sue Pastor found the time to be a prostitute with all the kids she had and was watching to see when or how she did it. She figured it out after watching their house one night.
