Storyboard Text

  • Mao announced his Great Leap Forward would last from 1958 to 1963.  This idea was similar to Stalin's five year plan. The goal of this plan was to change China from an agrarian economy to modern society following the communist revolution.  Mao wanted China to have an economy that would rival America.
  • WE HAVE TO BE BETTER THAN AMERICA!
  • Stalin is my idol :)
  • The two main goals Mao and his government wanted to target were to modernize industries and agriculture. More than 700,00 collective farms were combined into 26,00o communes. The Chinese citizens were moved into communes in 1958 to work on the farm or in the industries. Each communes contained 30,00 people. The citizens had to forfeit their private land and wages were then equalized between everyone.
  • WHAT!!!
  • hehe not your farm anymore
  • Mao hoped that the Great Leap Forward would mobilize the citizens the speed up the economic stage and get ready for the last stage: communism. He wanted a classless society.  The Communist Party even created the slogan promising the following, "Hard work for a few years , and happiness for a thousand". This was not true.
  • NOOOOO!
  • Look around you, everyone here is the class.
