Bitterly cold winters and mild summers. Land was flat close to the coastline but became hilly and mountainous farther inland. Soil was generally rocky, making farming difficult.
People wanted to come to the New England colonies to practice their own religions. It was known as religion freedom.
The main economic activities were logging, whaling, and fishing. Jobs were shipbuilding, fishing, and whaling. For entertainment there was community dances, barnyard picnics, church gathers and sewing.
The colonists were mostly Puritans who led strict lives.
The New England Colonies governments elected their own legislature, they were all democratic, they all had a governor, governor's court, and a court system.
In 1702, New Jersey became a royal colony. George I was crowned king in 1714. George II was crowned in 1727.
