Look! I got us an invitation to the ball!
Why would you do that! What do you expect me to wear!
Loses the Necklace
This diamond necklace is beautiful!
I lost your necklace and have spent the last 10 years paying off my debt from the replica I bought you.
What! I am sorry Mathilde but that necklace was a fake. It's only worth about 500 francs.
Mister Loisel came home and gave his wife, Mathilde Loisel, an invitation to a ball. Madame Loisel was sad because they were poor and she had no dress nor jewels to go to the ball in. Then she decided to ask her rich friend, Madame Forestier, if she could borrow some jewels for the ball. Madame Forestier let her borrow a diamond necklace.
Mister and Madame Loisel went to the ball. Madame Loisel looked prettier than any other woman there. She had a wonderful time. When it was time for them to go, Mister and Madame Loisel got into a cab and went home. That was when Madame Loisel realized that Madame Forestier's necklace was no longer around her neck. She lost it. They searched everywhere, but it was never found.
Mister and Madame Loisel decided to buy an exact replica of Madame Forestier's necklace, which was worth about thirty six thousand francs. Then one day, after ten years of paying off their debt, Madame Loisel ran into Madame Forestier. Madame Loisel, who had aged horribly, told Madame Forestier what happened. Madame Forestier was shocked and said, "Oh, my poor Mathilde! Why, my necklace was paste!"
